Elements and PrinciplesĪnother early project involves photographing the elements and principles of art. They’re paying more attention, which is the goal. There are usually a few students who insist the sticks they discovered had fallen exactly in the shape of an “N.” I trust them unless proven otherwise.Īfter the project is complete, I often notice students talking with each other about how they see their surroundings differently. Students love to discuss these pieces and discuss the “letters” they see.ĭuring the project, students quickly begin collaborating to find images and compare their letters with each other.

It’s important to show students taking a good photo involves more than a click of a button. However, when they try to translate their social media skills to photography class, many of them realize their skills aren’t quite as sharp as they thought. These days, students can snap selfies and photos anytime, with little planning or thought. I think a big reason for this is because students think it’s so easy to take pictures. They test the statistical significance of the difference in circuit dimensions, as well as obtain a correlation between average changes in original vs. Students export their data from GeoGebra to Microsoft® Excel® for graphing and analysis. To simplify the conversion from the on-screen units to the real circuits' units and the manipulation of the pictures, a GeoGebra measuring interface is provided. Inserting (provided) circuit pictures from a high-resolution microscope as backgrounds in GeoGebra's graphing window, students use the application's tools to measure lengths and widths of circuit elements. Measuring the dimensions of nano-circuits requires an expensive, high-resolution microscope with integrated video camera and a computer with sophisticated imaging software, but in this activity, students measure nano-circuits using a typical classroom computer and (the free-to-download) GeoGebra geometry software.
